Organizer 101

Welcome! You're reading this, so the chances are great that you are now a pickup hockey organizer on 20Skaters. That means you are my people, welcome!

In this area of the interwebs, you'll find everything you need to know to run great weekly pickup hockey....with 20Skaters.

First, welcome! If you’re reading this then you’re likely about to run your first pickup hockey game with us at 20Skaters Hockey. You can think of what follows here as your manual for operating weekly pickup hockey using our platform. This is a live document, meaning that we’ll do our best to keep it updated, make improvements and add more information over time.

How to read this

We’ve tried to order this to ensure a new organizer has the most pertinent information first. For example, you likely need to add a player to your lineup long before you need to understand refunds. So, you can read this top to bottom all the way through or you can simply skim and find the information that’s relevant to you today.

We obviously don’t expect you to memorize any of this, our hope is this will introduce you to what’s possible and allow you to return here to find the specifics when needed.

Over time, we’ll work to keep clarifying content here, adding relevant explainer videos etc.

Contacting Us

Throughout this, we will mention that you need to contact us. Anytime we suggest getting a hold of us, we simply mean sending us an email to team@20skaters.com.

All emails sent there automatically create a support ticket using our Zendesk instance. We rely on this to keep track of all contact with our players and organizers.

If that doesn't work, email me directly at brydon@20skaters dot com. You can email me directly anytime, there's just more chance of your email getting lost in my personal inbox.

Step 0

For those of you have NOT even run a single game with us yet.

If you have literally never operated a game with us, this is your checklist to ensure you're all set to go. You should be able to ignore this and skip ahead if you've already ran games with us.

  1. Get us your schedule of games by filling in the form on our Start Running Games page. Yes, this should be a self-serve process but it isn't today. We need to know when and where your games are, how much you charge subs etc.
  2. Connect your Stripe account. Our payment partner is Stripe, you will need to login or create an account with them and then connect that account to us. To achieve that, browse to our Let's Get Started page where you will find a large green button with the words Create a Stripe Account Now. Clicking that button will take you to Stripe where you can login, or create your account, and connect it to us.

Lineup Setup Mode

When you navigate to “Manage My Skaters”, you will see your current lineup. You will know your lineup is currently in setup mode if you see the following note at the top of your lineup page:

“Note: Your lineup is in setup mode, no invitation emails will be sent.”

We start most new lineups in setup mode. This simply means that NO emails are sent out for anything. This allows you to get familiar with our platform without worrying about triggering any emails. The only way to turn off setup mode is to contact us when you’re ready to turn it off. Once we turn off setup mode, emails start flying immediately. That’s it for setup mode, you likely won’t ever bump into it again.
